Winning Texas Hold‘Em for Dummies Review

0

Overview

My first thoughts were that I was once a dummy when it came to poker. It’s just too bad this guide wasn’t published when I first started.

As you can probably gather from title, Winning Texas Hold’Em for Dummies is aimed at beginner players and goes through the motions with hand rankings and the rules of the game.

It gets more interesting when the author speaks about:

  • Different player types
  • Table observations
  • The first 5 minutes at the table: building an image
  • Bluffing/semi bluffing
  • Calculating pot odds
  • Poker room etiquette

What hands to play and what positions is useful and there is a diagram you could print out and if you followed it religiously, you would probably do quite well.

There is some very useful but basic information on how to play certain hands including:

  • AA & KK pre flop
  • AK pre flop: which the author recommends not going all in pre flop which is a strategy that is certainly OK for beginner players.
  • AQ and QQ (always tricky hands to play!)
  • Small pairs up to JJ
  • Suited connectors
  • Suited hands with high kicker
  • Junk hands pre flop

Conclusion

If you’re completely new to poker, then it’s a decent investment as it gives a good starting point so you can stop being a ‘dummy’ at the tables. Don’t be a dummy in 2010 and purchase this e book!
