Tennis Score At Villa Park Proves Valuable Lesson…

0

6-4 is a scoreline we will see aplenty during the two weeks of the Australian Open, but nobody expected to see it in an English League Cup match at Villa Park. Least of all Spreadwise of the Racing Post, who tipped up a sell of total goals in the match at 2.7 for a whopping 5 points.

If you’re following our tipping league, you will see from the update from close of play Friday, the massive impact that a reverse like that has had on his position, so much so that I’ve got a chance of catching him now!

Taking everyone’s recommendations at face value as I do, I will have to mark Spreadwise down for a huge 36.5 point loss on that single bet, which is plainly a nightmare, and one of the reasons why some people don’t spread bet.

The thing is, to lose an amount like that is almost criminal, and more to the point, unnecessary.  If you check out my tutorials, you will see that I would NEVER risk a loss of that magnitude, and although I too suffered by following Spreadwise tip, my loss was just 5 points, bad enough though that is.

Two simple reasons for that, one is a stop loss, which is available on most accounts, and the other is that I would never risk 5 points in a single bet. My bank management and staking plan is based on a maximum one point stake for any bet, and with the stop kicking in in this bet at 5, then you lose 5 points in the worst case, which doesn’t damage your bank too badly.

When you are predominantly a seller in most markets, it’s a case of dodging the bullets and avoiding the freak results like this one was, but at the same time, making sure that you have minimised your risk in the way I’ve described.

That’s twice this season we have had a high profile 10 goal match, but you would normally go through complete seasons without seeing any of these, so they are as rare as hens teeth, but if you are on the wrong end of one, or something similar, you must be able to live to fight another day.

Of course, if you bought these goals, you would be in absolute clover, especially if you bet with Extrabet, who operate a stop loss/no stop win account. Safe to say that Extrabet, and the others will have taken a hit on this match as they generally do when there are lots of goals. Any consolation? Erm, no!
