Waiting for the Thaw !!!
The snow falls, it ices over and the country comes to a standstill! Horse Racing at “All Weather” Tracks is abandoned – mainly for safety reasons. The football is hit badly too – with only a handful of games this weekend, but we have plenty of other markets to lay in. Golf, Rugby, Cricket … plus lots more, Laying isn’t confined to Horse Racing. Granted, the liquidity is much better, but we can still have a punt.
I have been testing a subscription lay service called The Sports Professor. It is based solely on U.S Sports and they have an excellent strike rate. We can also lay on European football of course. For suggested bets on these, I would advise asking Kevin, our football expert.
There is a little all weather action starting again, and I have analysed how the favourites fared in handicaps at these courses.
Kempton:
Handicaps 27.01% – 96.70
Non Handicaps 39.01% – 23.48
Lingfield:
Handicaps 28.11% – 47.45
Non Handicaps 41.37% – 21.40
Southwell:
Handicaps 31.09% – 33.01
Non Handicaps 42.60% – 10.55
Wolverhampton:
Handicaps 28.22% – 128.53
Non Handicaps 41.44% - 16.32
These figures are for the last 3 years and suggest that we should beware of laying favourites in all Non Handicap races, and concentrate on the Handicap favourites at Kempton and Wolverhampton. Look for weaknesses in the favourites – Badly drawn, long lay off, maidens etc.
At long last, weather permitting, I will be reviewing False Favourites and also Betalay this coming week.
I had many computer related problems this past week, and, unfortunately, I have lost a nice little system I had for you. I will re-write it and post it later in the week. Please remember the motto If in doubt, leave it out….

Hi Brendan, the 2nd figure is the profit (or in this case loss) to 1 point -

Just a newbie question. What is the second figure in the favourites table you listed. I take it the first figure is the percentage a favourite wins.
Thanks for a great read.
