Making The Best Out Of Free Resources – Part Two

For the next article in this series I am going to highlight some of the many benefits of paying a daily visit to At The Races. It is free to register and in a few minutes you can access a wealth of information.

at the races Making The Best Out Of Free Resources Part TwoFrom the Homepage you can access the daily race cards which come complete with a form summary and a Timeform comment with their useful “Star Ratings”. Both of these will enable you to narrow down the field to a handful of horses, whereby, you can “click” on each name which brings a “Pop-Up” containing a wealth of information including career statistics, past form, and you can even view videos of these races (you do have to be logged in), to gauge the quality of the form for yourself.

At the base of each race there is a Summary Verdict together with some suggested tips which can again guide you in your final choice. There is a comprehensive results section so you can easily see how your fancy got on and if you are UK based there are options to watch the races live (for a fee)!!!!

From the easy to navigate Menu you can read up on all the latest news from the world of horse racing, including what the Jockeys and Trainers are up to.

One really “hot topic” from the site at the moment is the performance of their main tipster HUGH TAYLOR who provides excellent write ups each day explaining his thoughts behind the tips and suggested stakes which are usually on the site from around 10.15 each morning.

Such is his success since he joined At The Races in March 2009 that the prices of the horses tipped by Hugh generally plummet within minutes of his tips being posted on the site. To explain why, his record in the 9 months since he joined is showing a massive profit of over 440 points to advised stakes and prices. I have been an avid follower for a couple of months now and even to small fun bet stakes the return has been healthy.

Just as Tom Segal of the Racing Post Pricewise fame, Hugh’s tips may lend themselves to a form of trading by taking the current price on Betfair and laying it back if the price continues to come in as race time approaches. Hugh tends to select fairly high priced horses which do not appear to have an obvious chance, so his win rate is not high, and you can go a few days / weeks without a winner, so this approach of trading may offer a more conservative approach.

Also I am NOT suggesting following him blindly, but  taking note why he believes a horse will run well or is over priced has certainly provided me with new angles to investigate.

As well as Hugh Taylor’s suggestions, At The Races has Gary O’Brien who discusses the Irish scene, and also gives daily selections. If, like me, you are interested in Speed Ratings At The Races also have their own guru in LAWRENCE TAYLOR who puts up his main fancies and ratings for most of each days racing.

In the “FEATURES” section of the site there are some very insightful Stable Tours and they even produce a shortlist of horses to keep an eye out for……and why. There is a great Northern Spotlight section where news from that area is detailed with more Trainer interviews and “Eye Catchers” to follow.

Although it is not in my portfolio, there is also a comprehensive coverage of American Horse Racing to complement the Live TV coverage most evenings

As an alternative source of a wide range of information and resources I would whole heartedly suggest that you head over to At The Races as there is tons more on the site that I have not even mentioned in this brief overview. Happy exploring…………………………………….
