Trainer Form

The vast majority of horse racing trainers in the UK are creatures of habit. Year in and year out trainers follow a similar pattern of routine and come into form during the same month or run up to a particular festival etc,  although occasionally a spanner can hit the works with a virus hitting a stable and effectively shutting the stable down for several months. The press are usually up to speed with any issues affecting trainers like this so it pays to keep an eye on the relevant sites for up to date trainer news.

Free ResourcesOne major factor that will have an affect currently is the horrendous weather that most parts of the UK have suffered in the run up to Christmas and continuing into the first 3 weeks of 2010. Not only were lots of meetings abandoned but many trainers were reported as saying that their horses had missed some valuable work time due to the gallops being unusable. There are a number of FREE RESOURCES that can help in this unusual situation in addition to being a bread and butter method of making those extra vital checks in your form study, particularly when it has highlighted a selection worthy of investing your hard earned cash on it. Well the action is well and truly rolling in the Australian Open.  As I write this (on the Friday of the first week), there have already been some cracking matches with the usual share of upsets.

And biggest upset of all must surely have been the demise of US Open Champion and comeback queen, Kim Cleijsters.

Australian OpenWe are getting used to Kim surprising us.  Firstly, her comeback from retirement was totally unexpected but nobody would have believed that she could have walked away with the US title in her first big tournament.  And now that she was expected to do well she bows out in the 3rd round.

But it was not just the fact that she lost, but the manner of her defeat, a crushing 6-0 6-1 to Petrova.   We might have expected 6-4, instead we get this in a football match (The 6-4 win by Villa over Blackburn).

One wonders know whether the new Belgian comeback queen, Justine Henine, can do a Cleijsters?  How irritating would that be for Kim?

It’s a reminder of just how fickle sport can be.  And we need to bear this in mind with our trading as well.

With this very much to the forefront of my mind, the spurt of matches in Melbourne has given me further opportunity to test out 2 betfair-articles/test-results-for-tennis-systems/”>tennis trading systems.

Whilst on the subject of testing systems, I have written a tutorial which explains how you can apply simple statistical principles to not only testing of trading systems, but to your own trading performance.

Returning to the tennis, I am very much looking forward to the 2nd week.  Last time I asked the question, of Andy Murray, Dare we hope?.  I have come up with an answer: Yes we dare! as has progressed to the fourth round without even coming close to dropping a set.  But before we get carried away, he has a very tough match coming up against Isner, who showed his mettle in the last round by defeating Monfils, never an easy opponent.

But I am hopeful Andy will get through this, though I will not be placing any of my hard earned on this.  (By the time you read this you will probably know if I am right!)

I am so confident, in fact, that I have decided to modify that last answer to read:

Yes we dare hope that Andy is going to give Federer or Nadal a really tough fight in the semi-final or final and will outplay them both….before losing in 5 sets

Now that’s what I call positive thinking!

Well what a weekend we have just had, winner after winner after winner. Let me point you in the direction you need to be heading. Where to start, that is the question?

We shall start on our own site here at LaytheOdds where our Friday tip Millwall came in at tasty odds of  13/8. As I expected, Oldham tired in the second half and Millwall were able to take advantage to seal the win. Grimsby ran Rotherham close in  our 1/2 lay, before going down 2-1. This left us just over a point up on the day and we are now standing at 48% ROI since we started, a very good effort indeed.

We move onto Angola and after the success of our Group Winner strategy and the trade on Angola, which left us well in  profit, I put those profits to good use on Sunday. I never back the draw except in the latter stages of International tournaments. From the Quarter Final in I will always back the draw. The psyche of the footballer means at the nitty gritty end of tournaments they don’t go out to win, they go out not to lose. This is why so many games end deadlocked, with extra time and penalties. So it is in Angola, I backed both games yesterday to draw (which one of them was) and I will back both games today to be draws. However, by far and away the biggest single success came in the trade in the Ivory Coast v Algeria game.

Those that know me, realise that a major plank of my betting activity is laying odds-on favourites when they go a goal in front. Bring on the Ivory Coast, heavy odds-on favourites before the game, they took the lead early on. Time to lay methinks, 1.2 very nice. Minutes later Algeria equalise and a massive profit is locked in immediately but the real carnage is yet to come. Last minute of the game and it is 1-1, remember I have already backed the draw and locked in a very profitable trade, happy days but what happens in the next minute is truly unbelievable.

Keita scores the goal of the tournament, the Elephants are ahead again, they are unbackable on the exchanges but you can lay and with profits from the game already, why not, 1.01 unbelieveable. And then, and then Bougherra met a cross and planted his header into the net off the post to equalise with no time left. Game over, extra time. I traded out immediately, the game was over for me, I didn’t need extra time absolutely fantastic profits, the best trade I have ever made. I needed to lay down in a darkened room for an hour.

What else happened over the weekend. Well I continued testing the Psychic Soccer Profits, for which I have written a review in the football systems section. They made 3 successful lays over the weekend from North Queensland, to Lazio, to Everton, which meant that we had increased the bank by 48% in 12 days, which is fantastic. However I do have to report that after writing the review the bank did take a big hit in Monaco on Sunday night, fortunately I did dodge that one due to the carnage in Angola. Nevertheless, the service is well in profit and is due to launch on 12 February.

In my other life I am a football tipster on another website, where over the weekend we made 18 points profit for our clients, at £50/point that is £900 clear profit. We are on a bit of a run at the moment and the service is great value for money. It is a member only service, where you get the selections from 3 tipsters. You are able to pick up the selections from the website once you have joined. If you want to make football profits you can find the website here.

Kick off ProThis week I am testing a new SMS service Kick Off Pro, where you can join for a week at a time and you get the first week free. So you can dip in and out as you want. If it is a busy football week, join up and then if the following week is not very busy, you can drop it. The service is very cheap and as I say you can test it out for free for the first week.

As I have said earlier in this article, I am very interested in football trading and so will be looking at FTS Income, a service that is already for sale on this site. I have not previously had dealings with them but will be looking a bit closer at them this week and will report back later.

With the World Cup fast approaching, from March onwards I will be taking a look at each group and putting detailed analysis to each team in the group. I will take one group a week and work through them all, well before the competition starts.
