For the next article in this series I am going to highlight the potentially profitable method of compiling a list of “horses to follow”. Not only can this be very satisfying when “spotting” a future star in the making, especially when they go on to win one of the BIG races later in the season, but you can often profit from horses that win at big prices or go on to run up a string of victories.

Now if you are anything like me, when you have put your hard earned cash on your selection, the race starts and your eyes are totally focused on how your horse is running, and most of the other action and events can pass you by.

Well out there are a number of “specialists” who will not only watch every single race, but they will also review the recordings of a race over and over again to try and spot horses that have the potential to run well in their future races.

The good news for us is that we can actually get hold of some of this painstaking research for free! Even better news is that we can also arrange for a free reminder when one of our “list” horses is due to run, so we do not find that we are kicking ourselves when we look at yesterdays results and see that we missed a 10/1 winner!

There are a number of resources which can be used to help compile your own list of horses to follow, my personal favourites are:- More on Making The Best Out Of Free Resources – Part Three

Happy New Year to all the readers out there. Here’s hoping for another profitable year. With plenty of football action to look forward to, could this finally be the year in which England bring back that damn World Cup, it is long overdue!

The New Year is generally a time for reflection on the first half of the season and re-assessment of any betting strategies that may need tweaking. Football clubs also do their re-assessing at this time of the year.

The transfer window is open and teams will look to strengthen, if finances allow. For clubs in the lower reaches, the recent postponements are causing havoc, as revenue has stalled and repurcussions could follow further down the line, with points deductions as they go into administration.

StatsAs a way of looking back, let me just remind you of the Homes, Draws and Aways, win percentages of the top 4 English Leagues over the last 10 seasons.

Homes 45%,   Draws 27%,   Aways 28%

If we now have a look at how each of the top 4 divisions are doing so far this season, we may get an idea of how things might progress for the rest of the season.

Premiership    H 51%,  D 24%,  A 25%

Championship   H 41%,  D 32%,  A  27%

League 1    H 47%,  D 27%,  A 26%

League 2   H 43%,  D 27%,  A 30%

Over the short term statistics can be pulled out of kilter but over the longer term they are generally brought back into line with the norm. Bearing this in mind, you will see from the above stats that Leagues 1 and 2 have performed pretty much in line with what has happened over the last 10 years. In fact if you added the results from Leagues 1 and 2 together, they would exactly reflect the past 10 years. Even so, you will see that the Homes and Aways in both these divisions are slightly out of line. More on New Year, New Beginnings…

Happy New Year to you!

And, Sporting Index have extended the season of giving by increasing the free bet offer on their new account promotion to £300, which added to the existing £200 free bets being offered by Spreadex and Extrabet, gives a stunning total of £700 now available.

Earlier this week, I added a tutorial outlining the stake sizes you should be applying to your spread bets, based on the size of your bank.

There are now 3 tutorials available here, which together should provide you with all the help and advice you need to get started with spread betting, in terms of how to manage your funds and your stakes.

As I’ve said before, spread betting is fun, but people are put off by the fear of the unknown or perhaps the worry about big losses. Read my tutorials, and you will see that the risks involved in spread betting can be managed in just the same way as they can in fixed or exchange betting.

Now that the staking advice article is available, we intend to restart the tipping league in time for the weekend, as one or two of the participants were unsure of their stakes, which adversely affected their totals. Spreadwise from The Racing Post still leads the pack by some margin, and his points will be carried forward, but anyone in negative numbers can start again from zero.

Our “pre-season” period in the league had resulted in an overall profit position of over 40 points at one stage, but that has now been eroded to only a minimal positive figure, but with better stake management and continued quality tips from the experts, I’m sure we can demonstrate that genuine profits can be made from spread betting.

That aside, the new account offers currently available are too good to miss, so it would help us out a lot if you were interested, that you joined using the links below.

Sporting Index – for a £300 free bet.

Spreadex – 2 x £100 free bets.

Extrabet – 2 x £100 free bets.

And please, if you are still unsure about spread betting, just pop a comment here, or on the Forum, and I’m sure I’ll be able to help.
